What is YWAM?

In January 2016, I joined "Youth With A Mission" at the Sunshine Coast base in Australia. In August 2019, I moved to Sydney to help pioneer a new YWAM base in the heart of the city.

YWAM is one of the largest missions organizations in the world, sending out 25,000 short-term missionaries annually, with a staff of around 18,000.

What do we do? Discipleship. As a staff member or school leader, I help lead 5-month discipleship training schools, also known as "DTS". During these schools, students gather from around the world to encounter God, get trained, and be sent to the nations. Each school consists of a 3-month lecture and training phase, and a 2-month outreach to a specific nation.

Through training and times of response, lives are radically impacted by each team sent out, and students are transformed as they begin to see the power of the Gospel in action through their surrendered lives. In addition to "overseas" outreach trips, a majority of each DTS is spent training students on how to live missionally in urban and western contexts.

Missions is simply the call to the people around us. Whether that be through Gospel crusades in Uganda, soccer games with local children in Fiji, or teaching English to foreign university students here in Sydney, our call is simple and clear. DTS provides a platform for young people to put their faith in action, and fulfill the great commission-  in our backyards, at university, or overseas.

Packing up my belongings and moving to a giant rock 8,000 miles away from home was not the most conventional decision.

Working with YWAM and traveling abroad has led me to some strange familiarities. Living out of suitcases. Meeting and living with strangers every 5 months. Bucket showers. Squatty potties. Pieces of my heart taken by people all over the world. Constant change.

But I am blessed to call this "work" for the next few years. Missions makes my heart come alive. It is a privilege to spend my time and energy, helping people to see and feel a love that they have been searching for all of their life.

This is me getting in the game, playing for a love that is way too big, and way too good.

Here are two incredible teams I've been privileged to lead, alongside some even more incredible co-leaders.
